A Personal Branding Photoshoot Shows What Sets Jannene Meyer Dog Photography Apart
What an absolute creative joy to capture this personal branding photoshoot that goes to the very heart of what Jannene creates. Getting clear about what sets this fine art dog photographer and long time friend and fellow entrepreneur apart in her market was absolutely clear to me from the get-go.
When you know what sets your brand apart, standing out is easy.
In fact the planning process involved only one very excited conversation where I highlighted her distinctive style, extensive knowledge and love of dogs, and her warm, infectious, positive energy as what I see setting her brand apart from all the others. Capturing this became the focus for the personal branding photoshoot I planned for her distinct brand.
She approached her own photoshoot with the same sense of dedication, eye for detail, and enormous amounts of fun and laughter as she approaches her clients’ photoshoots.
It’s this high vibe energy and unique creative style that she brings to her work that I honed in on for her own brand photo update.
Planning and creative directing Jannene’s photoshoot was pretty straightforward given my close knowledge of her, her brand, and her way of working, but the process of creating brand visuals that conveyed all this also involved creative collaboration. Two friends, both photographers, getting to play in her studio for a morning!
Planning Her Personal Branding Photoshoot
Our ideas and vision for how her images would look and be styled were freakily on par with one another’s! We both knew that given her V-A-S-T vintage prop collection has fast become a big part of her signature style, it had to feature prominently – and totally unapologetically! As did her close relationship with her own two pooches. (Who incidentally were the most practiced models – human or otherwise that I have ever seen!! This dog photography world is another thing completely! Special dog whistles, squeaky toys, organic treats!)
The Creative Direction
I thought it important that all this be captured within her own studio space, yet unlike with her own work, the focus was on her this time. (I lost count of how many times I had to channel Kath & Kim with “look at me, look at me” to get her attention off the dogs!) Conveying her fun loving energy, her professionalism and her complete dog obsession in images was my goal of the photoshoot. I was adamant that this was not to be me replicating her in her style of photographing her clients and their furry friends. Her style elements had to feature of course, as did loving interaction with her own dogs, but I wanted to pull out the feeling of what working with Jannene might be like.
My kind of personal brand photography is exactly that – personal. I aim to capture the energy, the connection, and what sets you apart. Combining strategy and creativity to get to the heart of your brand, and your ideal clients.
When your brand photos are tailor-made for you, what you do, and how you do it, your ideal clients know instantly that you’re the one for them. They can see and feel in your images what the experience of working with you is like. Your photos are authentic and impactful. They show your value. And that’s exactly what the kind of clients that you absolutely love working with need to see. They know in a split second that you offer what they’re looking for.
Show the experience.
In Jannene’s case her photographic style speaks for itself in many ways. But we all know that deciding to book yourself – or your fur baby – in for a photoshoot is also about the experience. Imagine getting a quick glimpse into what to expect and how it might feel, all from looking at an image?
The Brand Studio
When your brand photography is customised to you and what you need to show, you can forget about generic uninspiring stock images, or clichèd brand images of you behind a laptop. Sure as in many cases, Jannene’s included, time at the computer is part of her work, but is that what’s going to show people what it is that she really does? What sets her apart from other dog photographers?
That’s why my brand photography process always begins with clarity around your brand and brings in strategy to make sure that your images are not only stunning but intentional. More than just a pretty photo, they will bring you results in your business. My background in advertising brings you an extra added advantage when combined with my photography, art, styling, and creative skills. And your photos are never ever going to look predictable, stock standard, or interchangeable with anybody else’s brand photos out there. And this is what your dream clients will see in a nanosecond! Talk about a picture being worth a thousand words!
You. Showing up confidently in your best light. Just as yourself. Exactly right for right now. So that your clients can feel what it’s like to work with you.
In Jannene’s case, the collection of images shows what distinguishes Jannene Meyer Photography from all the rest! The creative aesthetic, warmth and approachability, her total dog and vintage prop obsession, and fine art sensibility stands her apart. The design elements I used in her brand photography photoshoot are closely aligned with her own brand identity elements such as colour and style. But it’s the feeling of how it might be to have your dog photographed by Jannene that comes through. The photos show her warmth and total prop obsession. You see the joy in how she interacts with her own dogs. And the aesthetic is in keeping with her own brand elements.
The collection of brand imagery that she now has on hand gives a fresh take and shows the absolute essence of her brand and the way she works.
Showing how it feels in photographs.
